This blog is to celebrate birds and birding in the Low Country of coastal Georgia and South Carolina, with occasional journeys to other wonderful birdwatching locations.

Wonderful Morning on Little Tybee
After all the excitement of finally getting my book out into the world, it was a real gift to join Captain Rene Heidt for a morning on the water. We went in search of a possible Western Grebe, but did not find one. Instead, we saw many loons and large groups of shorebirds resting on the beaches of Little Tybee at high tide. There were Black-bellied Plovers, Red Knots, Dunlin, Short-billed Dowitchers, Ruddy Turnstones, Willets, Sanderlings, and Greater Yellowlegs. Ospreys were fishing and Buffleheads were swimming in large groups. The water in the creeks was like glass and the sun was warm. Oh December on the Georgia coast.
